Death Note: Online - Episode 6 - A Beginning to Past Actions
Doctor Damion, a bald man in his thirties, stared across the wooden table covered in charts into Kaibura's dreary eyes. He scratched his chestnut-colored goatee, not taking his eyes off of Kaibura. Two mugs of coffee sat in front of the two people as they spoke to each other. Doctor Damion sipped from his mug, closing his eyelids in deep thought.
The two of them were in a room with white walls and a red carpet under the table. The room smelled like evergreen leaves. A door stood to the side of the rectangular-shaped room. Everything in the room seemed plain with pictures on the walls of a different variety of people. Nothing in the room seemed too out of place, and nothing in the room seemed too complex.
"Tell me what occurred afterwards," the doctor said, putting the mug back down on to to the table's surface. "What happened right after you, Zarkus, and the woman got out of the prison facility in Saskatoon."
Kaibura stared down at his mug, which was giving off a white steam. He looked into the coffee to look into his reflection, his own reflection. He had truly changed over the past two years. Kaibura was no longer the Kaibura he once knew.
He had black stubble around his chin. His eyes looked dreary and appeared to be blood-shot. Kaibura's messy hair had become a buzz-cut, and there were nicks around the left side of his face. Kaibura wore what appeared to be a brown dress suit with a purple tie. He looked rather neat, but his face did not play along with the well-made suit.
"Well?" The doctor asked.
"You were ... talking to me?" Kaibura said in his usual accent.
"I will ask you again. What happened after the prison facility incident? How many did you kill?"
"I killed no one," Kaibura snapped. "We managed to get to an airport to travel to Bangkok. Thank God we killed no one - I was getting sick of the blood shed."
"I see," Doctor Damion nodded. "Go on."
"We started investigating," Kaibura went on. "We found out that one of the houses in Bangkok had yet another clue for me and Zarkus, as well as Sam. The clue was a very ... interesting one. We found a notebook."
"A notebook you say?"
"Yes," Kaibura said. "The notebook contained a letter from L himself."
"What did it say?" Doctor Damion sipped from his mug once more. He sighed, savoring the strong taste of his black coffee.
"Told us he was really in Japan, but we didn't believe it at first ... until..."
"Until what?"
"The letter gave us a sign," Kaibura sighed, finally drinking out of his own mug before continuing. "It told us that the city of Bangkok's centre would burst into flames. Me and Zarkus decided to go for a stroll around Bangkok. That was when an explosion erupted from one of the buildings."
"Was it exactly at the centre?"
"The letter told us it would happen close to us," Kaibura responded. "The explosion went off in one of the river canals. Many farmers drifting produce through the canal system were ... killed."
Doctor Damion nodded in understanding. "Tell me - what did you do next?"
"Me and Zarkus ran for cover," Kaibura muttered. "We had already armed ourselves with the manual pistols. We managed get away without an injury, without killing anyone, but we knew that it was a sign that L would perhaps provide yet another clue in the continent of Japan."
Doctor Damion drank the rest of his black coffee before continuing. He scratched his nosebridge before putting his thin spectacles on. He threw a warm grin at Kaibura who did not return a smile.
"So you went to Japan with the others, Kaibura?"
"After gathering what we needed at Bangkok, which took a full week, we did,"
"What did you find there?"
"We learned that it was a pristine set up created by L," Kaibura said, looking up into the white ceiling of the room. He rubbed his left eye before continuing. "We were apprehended at the airport by police officers. That was when a shoot-out began at the airport. Zarkus was shot, and Sam was killed. My left foot was shot at, but I was able to put up a rather suitable fight. I believe we landed somewhere outside of Tokyo."
Doctor Damion made another warm smile. "So you did kill someone!"
"No," Kaibura snapped. "I was able to tackle an officer away from us and beat him down. It wasn't enough, sadly. We were handcuffed and sent into Tokyo. All I knew was that we were being taken away. I had no idea L was behind this at the time."
"What happened next?"
"We were introduced to L..."
********************************************
Kaibura looked across the library-like room. Zarkus winced due to the pain in his arm. He was losing a lot of blood. The two of them, regardless of Zarkus' pain, looked around the room which the police had locked them in. A way out was what they needed.
The room appeared to be well-lit. A lantern was placed on each bookshelf. A flame-lit chandelier could be seen in the middle of the ceiling swaying slightly. These two types of objects were the only sources of light or energy in the room. The room smelled like burning rubber. On a willow-made table in front of the sofa was a stack of paper with arial font typing. The stacks of paper looked extremely important.
On the sofa was a tired-looking man. He smiled at the two, motioning for them to come closer to him. Kaibura hesitated, as well as Zarkus. The man motioned for them to come closer once more.
"I won't bite," the man laughed.
"Why have you brought us here?" Kaibura demanded.
The man stared at Kaibura. That was when his smile disappeared. "I am L. Or Lelouch, you may prefer."
Zarkus glared at the man for a moment, reaching towards the pocket where he carried his gun. He ripped towards the area, but found nothing. Kaibura did the same, searching for his gun. They found nothing.
"I told the kind officers to drug you," Lelouch said, looking at the two with a serious look on his face. "You were asleep for several hours before you arrived here. Your weapons were taken away."
Lelouch eyed Kaibura cautiously as he took a step forward.
"Tell me, L," Kaibura said, looking back at Lelouch's baggy eyes. "Is it true that you are a linked to Kira?"
"No," Lelouch sighed. "I am Kira."

(continued)
Zarkus stared at Lelouch, who had also started staring back. "Tell me, Lelouch," Zarkus began. "Don't you feel guilt from killing all of these people?"
Lelouch nodded. "Of course. But, it is for the greater good. This world is rotting, and I want to rule this rotting world and bring this world to its knees and keep it there. The people..."
"The people," Kaibura interupptted. "Do not need a dictator who believes he is a god. I have seen your works, Kira, I am a lawyer. You pass judgement in a very unnecessary way."
"Yes, you do." Zarkus said.
"That is but an illogical thing to say," Lelouch said, relaxing himself on the couch. "The people enjoy it for Kira to do these things. I am doing the right thing. Saying that I demand to be a god is jumping to conclusions. I myself am of Christianity, and, I assure you, God is my only father."
Zarkus laughed, "So what will you do with us now? Kill us? We know who you are, and it would only be a matter of time for us to find you once more."
Kaibura had already learned that Zarkus was the type of person who would make bluffs. During their time in Bangkok, Kaibura had learned that Zarkus was once a great pool hustler before he was recruited into the ranks of the CHS. He had always taken risks throughout the duration of his life.
"Actually," Lelouch softly said. "I want to use the two of you as experiments. You see, I'm L, as well as a scientist. Have you two heard of a man called W? John W. Ari?"
"I have," Kaibura muttered. He clenched his jaw at this question. "He was my friend's father."
"Well, he was a fine opponent," Lelouch sighed. "He was the only person who got enough information to actually prosecute me in a courtroom. However, I used him in one of my experiments."
"And what was this experiment?" Zarkus asked.
There was silence in the room. The dimly-lit room started to grow dimmer and dimmer. Lelouch smiled as the lighting in the room began to go pitch black. The silence was almost deafening.
"I was experimenting on a fun way to kill him..." Lelouch finally said.
That was when the explosion occured. It was so unexpected that even Lelouch seemed somewhat afraid. Several books in the bookcases near the walls fell to the ground, and the lamps fell on to the floor, breaking into many shards. The gaping hole on the otherside of the room was the works of the explosion.
A beautiful yet fearsome sight was revealed while Kaibura looked across the room passed the hole. A city enclosed by the blanket of the dark night could be seen. Towers and apartment buildings were scattered around, towering over eachother. Cars drove through one of the only visible highways from the library-like room. Kaibura could feel the ice-cold wind push into the room, and could see some debris from the wall fall into the hole.
"It's ... it's beautiful!" Kaibura exclaimed.
Zarkus did not feel the same. Instead, he grabbed on to Kaibura and started sprinting across the room. Kaibura had no choice but to stay beside him. They hopped over Lelouch who was buried under a debris of rubble.
"What are we doing?" Kaibura cried.
"We're jumping it!" Zarkus laughed.
"What?"
"I said we're -"
They were already in the air by then, falling down. Kaibura struggled to open his eyes, and by the time he could see what was happening, he wished he hadn't looked. He and Zarkus were falling down from a high floor. They had just jumped off a skyscraper and were falling to their deaths.
"You bloody retard!" Kaibura exclaimed.
Kaibura turned his head towards Zarkus who was closer to the windows of the skyscraper. A steel cable ran down the side beside Zarkus. He grabbed on to Kaibura, dragged him closer to him, and reached out towards the steel cable. Before he could grab it, there was another explosion several stories behind them.
The explosion was so great that it pushed the two farther away from the building, and pushed them towards the ground in an agile manner. Kaibura and Zarkus spun and rolled in mid-air, away from the domicile. It seemed like the end for the two when they landed on something soft and bouncy.
Kaibura looked around quickly and realized they were on a giant, football-shaped balloon. No, it was not balloon. It was a blimp - a green blimp. They had landed on a blimp in mid-air. They were safe.
"Where'd this thing come from?" Zarkus asked himself, poking at the blimp.
"Wherever it came from, it saved our asses!"
Kaibura looked upwards towards at the skyscraper and realized that parts of the building was collapsing. Pieces of glass were falling, giant holes from where the explosions went off were glowing a slight orange. The floors where the explosion had gone off were on fire, and people were jumping out of the buildings in hope of survival. Their survival was limited.
"That building looks too familiar," Zarkus muttered. "Isn't that the -"
"It ... looks like the Midtown Tower of Tokyo," Kaibura answered. "And ... we just jumped off of it, the second largest tower in Japan."
Zarkus burst out in laughter, "And now we're on a random blimp!"
Kaibura's eyes widened when he came to a startling conclusion. He stood up and looked around. The blimp was too close in between the narrow buildings beside them. There was a high chance of collision, and the aftermath would be devastating.
"Is it low enough to jump?" Kaibura said, looking down from the blimp. They were thirty metres off of the ground, above startled people looking up at the Midtown Tower and the blimp. Cries could be heard from below as police cars drove around endlessly.
"To the side," Zarkus pointed towards the a balcony behind Kaibura. "Jump it!"
The two of them hopped over to the balcony and grabbed on to it. They pulled themselves up and looked down at the streets. Police officers ran and drove around trying to evacuate the civilians. The blimp did not look like it was going to land properly. It looked like it was going to collide into a building.
Zarkus turned and pushed a door open on the balcony. He climbed through, as well as Kaibura. They found themselves in a dark room covered in metallic wires. Sparks came out of some of these wires. On the opposite end of the room was a hole, most likely the exit to the room.
The two approached the hole and learned that it was a trapdoor. They climbed down hole, on a steel ladder covered with an orange rust. Within a minute they had reached the bottom, and had realized what building they were in.
Pools upon pools of water were scattered about. It was a public pool. However, no one was around.
Kaibura looked towards a set of tinted doors. He could barely see people, but could see that some people were in bathing suits. He and Zarkus ran towards the doors and opened them to see if the blimp had crashed.
They looked up into the dark skies of the night and could see the emerald-colored blimp slowly hovering through the narrow street. It was a blimp with a horizontal cross on it. A metallic box stuck under the blimp. The windows on the box, which was most likely the piloting room, were tinted.
That was when gunfire rang through the streets. The people, including Zarkus and Kaibura, ducked. Kaibura looked around quickly and saw that police officers were firing at the blimp.
"What are you doing? You're going to make it collapse on the people!" Kaibura yelled.
"We have no choice," one of the officers yelled. "It's already close enough to the ground. The worst will be injuries - hey isn't that a person up there?"
Zarkus and Kaibura looked up at the blimp and saw that the door to the metallic box had swung open. A man peeked down at the crowd. He looked across and jumped out, sliding down on an iron pole.
The man had a black ski mask on. In his right hand was an MP5, a sub-machine gun. By the time he reached the ground, he began to run the opposite direction.

Gunfire rang through the streets once more. The man in the mask fell to the ground at such a fast motion that it took several seconds before Kaibura could react to what had just happened.
"Cease fire!" One of the officers yelled. He ran towards the man and pulled off the ski mask. It was a man with a long nose and tanned skin. The man's blue eyes were still open. He was a handsome man who's nose was slowly dripping with a dark-red colour.
Kaibura, followed by Zarkus, ran towards the man to see who was flying the blimp. Zarkus turned and looked at the blimp, which was slowly drifting downwards with the help of some rope and gunfire. He looked back at the man and sighed.
"Things didn't have to turn out this way," Zarkus muttered to himself quietly. "You didn't have to do this sort of thing for us, Ilyore."
"Ilyore?" Kaibura asked.
"Back away gentlemen," a police officer said, pulling the body up.
Zarkus watched the officer carry Ilyore away. Kaibura looked at him and asked who Ilyore was.
"One of my most loyal friends," Zarkus muttered.
The two looked around and walked down the sidewalk. Kaibura could not help but feel somewhat sorry for Zarkus. He had lost a friend and was going over the edge to cry. That was when Kaibura remembered about Lelouch.
"Zarkus," Kaibura began. "What about Lelou -"
"Look up at the building yourself."
Kaibura turned and looked up at the Midtown Tower and gasped. The top stories of the tower were engulfed in orange flames. Explosions erupted from the top as debris from the building itself fell down upon the street. Firetrucks were already at the scene. People were running away from the falling barrage.
"Let's get out of here," Zarkus said, walking ahead of Kaibura quietly. "We're wasting time here. Kira is dead, and so is L. Our mission is done."
"But hold on here," Kaibura said, reaching forward to grab on to Zarkus' left shoulder. "We can't be so sure of that. What if another person like Kira is out there?"
"Impossible," Zarkus muttered. "There is no evidence of such a thing. We'll have to wait and see."
The two walked two blocks away from the commotion at the Midtown Tower. It was a silent walk while they watched more firetrucks and police cars rush to the tower. They passed empty restaraunts and deserted factories. Not a soul could be seen running towards the falling Midtown Tower. Everyone was running away from the tower. (It looked weird for Kaibura and Zarkus to be the only ones walking casually).
"Do we really just leave it like this?" Kaibura asked.
"Of course," Zarkus said, inhaling the smoke-scented air. He looked down at his arm, which had already stopped bleeding. It was beginning to scab. "We can't do anything about it."
"No, I mean, do we really walk away from the tower?"
The silence continued as Kaibura and Zarkus continued down the street. Not a sentence was said by the two. They found shelter in a damp alleyway and sat their, thinking of the events that had followed them. Kaibura looked at Zarkus with a sideways glance, who was sitting against a box shedding a tear.
A manly tear.
********************************************
"Did you ever find out who Ilyore was?" Doctor Damion asked. He had already taken out a piece of parchment in the middle of the story. He was still writing down most of the things Kaibura had spoken about.
"No," Kaibura said. "All I knew was that Zarkus knew him."
"Was he the reason behind the Tokyo Incident?"
"Most likely," Kaibura muttered. "Zarkus did sound like Ilyore did something."
Doctor Damion scratched his bald head, putting the red pen down to the left of the parchment. He looked up at Kaibura and narrowed his eyebrows. He stared, tilting his head to the right before speaking.
"I would like to continue treating you," the doctor said. "Same time tomorrow. I would like to speak with you more upon this matter. This is definitely a story that could provide the backround story for the Kira Investigation."
Kaibura nodded in agreement. He stood up from his chair and shook the doctors hand before exiting the room, accompanied by two police officers in blue uniforms, leaving Doctor Damion to write on the page of paper he had with him. That was when his cellular phone began to ring.
He reached into his pocket and pulled his blue phone out and answered the caller. Doctor Damion closed his eyelids the moment he heard the cold voice come from the receiver of the phone. A woman had called him. He scratches his goatee before speaking back.
"I spoke with him for five hours straight," he said. "Very interesting story. He seems emotionally scarred, however."
"Are you going to ask him more about what happened at the Tokyo Incident?"
"Of course," the doctor answered. "But I want to ask him what exactly what happened in his two years of being in the missing person files in Saskatoon. There must be more to his story than he told me. He managed to get to -"
"I don't care," the voice hissed. "Get as much information as you can. You're on a deadline."
"I understand."
Doctor Damion put the cellular phone away and exited the room. He walked down a narrow hallway, taking out the sheet of parchment he had been writing on prior to the current time. The doctor read the page of paper carefully before exiting the building, into the showers of the spring season.
