It was all a set up.

From the moment Kaibura and Zarkus had entered the cars, it had all been a set up from the very beginning. It made no sense at the beginning, but now everything was not very pristine anymore. It was a set up full of geniusm that Kaibura had not figured out until then.

Both of the cars had stopped ten minutes after they left the restaurant. Kaibura looked through the window and could see that he and the other police car were parked on top of what appeared to be gravel. Only trees could be seen in sight - buildings were not around in view. Zarkus, who was not too far from Kaibura's car, did not seem suprised.

"What on earth?" Kaibura muttered to himself.

The police officer exited the car and so did the other police officer. They grinned at eachother and looked back at Zarkus and Kaibura. Zarkus waved. There were only two police officers in all.

"They're unlocked now," one of the officers said. This officer was a female. "You two may come out."

"Yes," the other officer said. This one was a male officer, without a mistake.

Zarkus opened the door and hopped out of the car with a broad grin. Kaibura did the same, only with a confused expression. The two officers had the same personality as Zarkus, in a way.

"Hey, Zarkle!" The female officer sang.

"Hello, Sam,"

"Sup my man?" The male officer droned.

"Very good, Lucas! How're you twins doing?"

"Who's your friend? Oh right ... him." Sam asked.

"I-I'm Kaibura," Kaibura said. "Pl-pleased to meet you I guess."

Kaibura looked at the two officers and noticed that these two people looked exactly alike. They had pale, clear skin, as well as magenta-coloured eyes. They wore the same blue police outfit, and they wore the same pistols on the same hip. Several things seemed to be the only factors that could tell them apart.

Sam's hair seemed to be a dark-green colour and appeared to be going down to her shoulders. She had eyeliner on and had a warm smile on her face. However, Lucas was different; very different.

Lucas had a grim look on him, no matter how happy he seemed. He had long, brown hair that was tied into a ponytail. Kaibura did not notice until he turned to face Zarkus that there was a long scar on the left side of his face that went from his left eye, down into his jaw line.

"So," Zarkus said. "I got the information. You guys ready?"

"Yep," Sam said. "Where are the others?"

"K.I.A," Zarkus muttered. He seemed a little hurt by this. Sam and Lucas didn't take the news too well either. "We'll go on without them. My information tells me that L is in Bangkok, Thailand. That'll be our first destination."

"Hold on one second," Kaibura cried. "Why bring me into this? Can't I just leave? I promise I won't tell anyone about you guys..."

"No," Lucas said softly. "From our sources, you are a lawyer correct? Anyhow, you know plenty about the law. So be it. You are our lawyer if anything goes wrong."

"What if I refuse?"

Sam made a motion with her hand, as if she were slitting her throat with an imaginary knife. Kaibura gulped.

Chrisy fell on to the puddle-covered floors of the alleyway. A bloody hole was on the left-side of her rib cage. Blood diffused into the water molecules as a hooded figure came upon her. Chrisy struggled at first, but managed to turn her head slightly so she could see the one who had shot her.

It was a man with a black hoodie on. A white pony-tail drooped down the left-side of his head. Through the darkness of the alleyway, Chrisy could see that the man had a frail look to his face, which had some stubble around his chin. He appeared to be in his sixties. He smiled down at her, gun in hand. It was a .40 caliber pistol, a police officer's gun.

"It won't kill ye instantly," he said with a rough voice. This man sounded like a pirate. "But it'll kill yeh 'ventually. Now tell me what I want, y'hear?"

Chrisy eyed the man with a sharp stare. "Why should I tell you anything?"

"Well lassie, that be given me some trouble fer the past two days,"

"T-two days?" Chrisy stuttered. The pain was increasing.

"I be thinkin' 'bout that plenty," the man continued. "Then I thought, kill the Kira follower I be doin'. Get it over with 'cuz she may be Kira or know 'bout Kira. I've had eyes on you, Chrisy. I saw what y'wrote on the page o' paper."

Chrisy stared at the man, shocked. He had found out so much in the past however long the man had been stalking her. She had to act as innocent as possible. She couldn't slip up, or it would be Lelouch's capture.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Chrisy cried. "Paper? I'm just a Japanese Reporter! I know nothing too much about this investigation!"

The man kept a cold stare on Chrisy before speaking. "Oh well. Ye die anyway."

And with that, he turned to walk out of the alleyway, leaving Chrisy to lay on the ground with a bullet in her stomach, and litres of blood pouring out of her own body. She would die in a matter of minutes if this continued.

"Wait," she called to the man. The man stopped and turned to look at her pleading face. He grinned at her. "I ... have something to share with you ... in exchange for how m-much you may know."

The old man grinned, bending over to hear her more clearly.

"The Abandoned Shack," Chrisy mumbled. The man could hear her fine. "Back door ... keypad. Password ... voice protected. There's a man there ... called Lelouch. Bodyguards everyw-where. I don't ... can't..."

"Hush, darlin," the old man said in a soothing voice. "It be fine now. May you rest in peace and hope Satan ain't want such a pretty thin' like you..."

"Please, tell me h-h-how you kn-knew..."

The old man's grin broadened. "You see, it isn't very complicating," he said. "Do you know anybody named Ilyore?"

[Half a day before]

"Grandpa," Ilyore said through the cellular phone. "I need you to kill off Chrisy. You know who she is."
"What ever for, sonny? Ain't she yer wife to be?" Ilyore's grandpa asked.
"I know you're a retired police officer," Ilyore muttered. "And I know you still have your old equipment. You used to work in the Kira Investigation, so you know plenty about the needs of Kira, correct?""I don't get what 'yer
gettin' at!"
"Please, do it for me," he pleaded. "You are the only one closest to her. She tried killing me!"
"I understand," The old man answered. "Tell me what I should say to her exactly..."

[Half a day later]

"Ilyore, you traitor!" Chrisy exclaimed.

It began to rain. A storm was starting to brew, and it wasn't going to help Chrisy's condition. Large amounts of blood continued leaving the gaping hole on her side. Nothing was going to save her.

"He ain't a traitor," Ilyore's grandpa snapped. "You tried killin' em. Don't put up that innocent crap 'with me, lassie. I know when one be lyin' or playin' round. You ain't be playin' round!"

"Sh-shut up, o-o-old gee ... zer!" Chrisy exclaimed. The pain was getting to the point where every word she said took the breath out of her.

That was when her eyelids slowly began to close, and when the old man started searching her for anything unusual.

James looked around the small house. No one was around.

He sat down one of the decaying chairs and looked at the Death Note in awe. It was a nicely-made book with fine leather for the cover and back cover. The paper in it appeared to be blank as well. Behind the front cover were a list of rules that appeared to be an important asset to the mysterious notebook. The rules read:

The human whose name is written in this note shall die.
This note will not take effect unless the writer has the subject's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.

If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the subject's name, it will happen.

If the cause of death is not specified, the subject will simply die of a heart attack.

After writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds (400 seconds).

James scanned these rules. A notebook that could kill people seemed very unlikely and unrealistic. This was all most likely a prank, but there was more to it than the rules seemed. Every single rule seemed very detailed, far too much that the rules seemed real. He read the rules four more times before putting it on his lap, closing it up.

"Not real," James muttered. "Then again ... why not?"

He opened the Death Note up once more and gazed at the blank pages. James was becoming curious about the notebook. He wondered if it would kill him to try such a utility. That was when he dug through the pile of papers for a pencil. Once he had obtained a pencil, he put the tip of the graphite to a blank page in the Death Note.

He hesitated at first, but finally managed to write down his first name.

Death Note: Online - Episode 5 - Two Broken Paths Empty Re: Death Note: Online - Episode 5 - Two Broken Paths

Lucas and Sam led both Kaibura and Zarkus, in handcuffs, through the prison facility of Saskatoon. It was a plain facility, with brick walls and concrete flooring. There was nothing fancy about a place which confined a person. It was all simplistic and plain.

"This way," Sam said, leading Kaibura and Zarkus to an orange door. Lucas took out a card and slid it through one of the cracks in the wall. The door appeared to be key card protected. When the door opened, Lucas took the lead. "Lucas will show you two what weaponry we'll be able to sneak out. I'll keep the door under guard."

Kaibura looked around the room. It was a well-lit room with brick walls and shelves carrying a variety of boxes. There were multiple boxes at the opposite end of the room, many of them nailed shut.

"Over here," Lucas said. Kaibura and Zarkus walked towards him. Behind Lucas was an opened box. In it, there were multiple clips for a certain type of gun. "These are bullets for the manual rifles I'm about to give you both. They'll be in different briefcases, along with deagles I'm about to assign you two."

Zarkus nodded. Kaibura stared in confusion.

Lucas handed both Zarkus and Kaibura two briefcases, both in black leather. The briefcases were relatively small, and did not look like it could accompany two firearms. "They contain parts for the rifle and pistol," Lucas said with a proud voice. "Each side contains parts that you can attach to eachother. That's why they're manual, you'll have to put them together."

"I understand," Zarkus droned. "Kaibura will be my right hand man. He knows how to aim a gun. We will meet the last of the CHS in Japan first, though."

Lucas uncuffed both Kaibura and Zarkus so the two could inspect the briefcases. In them were parts of rifles and guns, all in perfect fitting within the box. In the box it contained craters for the pieces. Zarkus grinned. Kaibura merely stared at the barrage of pieces.

"To Bangkok, my friends," Kaibura said. "To and fro!"

Kaibura was beginning to get used to this group of people.

Zarkus looked over at Kaibura and grinned. "We're going to get along with eachother real good." He muttered.

"Hey you," a voice shouted from the front door. Sam fell on to the ground. "What are you people doing in here?"

That was when the alarm began to sound.

"Oh crap," Zarkus exclaimed. "Lucas, Sam - we have to get out of here!"

"How will we do that?" Kaibura asked. He looked nervously at the person at the front door, who appeared to be a man in a police uniform.

BOOM!

The officer at the front door had started to fire. Zarkus pulled Kaibura behind one of the boxes. Lucas was not so lucky. A bullet he hit him in the left shoulder. The back of Lucas' head hit the concrete. He appeared to be knocked out or dead.

Zarkus opened the brief case and started putting pieces of something together. He put things together at such a large speed that Kaibura was astonished by such a simple thing. When Zarkus was finished with fitting pieces together, the pieces formed a small pistol.
"Been 'round these things a lot," Zarkus said with a broad smile across his sweaty face. "Had lots of practise with them. Wish me luck."

Kaibura watched as Zarkus jumped up and rolled behind the box full of ammunition.

BOOM!

The bullet entered the box, but had not gone through all of the ammunition. By then, Zarkus had obtained a full clip and had already put it into the pistol. The alarm was deafening while he stood up and fired at the police officer from the box.

He fired four rounds into the officer's chest, and two rounds into his groin. The officer fell to the ground, screaming in dreadful pain. Zarkus smirked, telling Kaibura to come on over to him. On the leftside of the room, right beside Zarkus, were pistols, the same kind Zarkus had, only these pistols were already put together.

"Take one and take a few clips," Zarkus ordered. "I'll take ten, you take ten. Shove them into your pockets and follow me. You know how to shoot a gun, right?"

"Erm ... yes?"

"Good," Zarkus smiled. "Let's get out of here. But first..."

Zarkus bent over and checked the pulse of Lucas and sighed and shook his head, muttering, "Gone,". He went over to Sam and checked her pulse. Zarkus began to shake her until her eyes eventually slid open. She got up and looked over at Lucas. Her jaw dropped, staring down at her twin brother's body.

"Is he ... is he..."

"Gone? Yes," Zarkus said, "Forget about him. We have to get out of here as soon as -"
Sam dropped down to her knees and began to sob. Many tears had already poured on to the concrete. She appeared to be the sensative type of person, and she was now crying. Kaibura knelt down beside her and put his hand on her shoulder.

"Hey, look," he said soothingly. "It's fine now. All that matters is that you're alive. Your brother probably wanted this for you too, just like you wanted your brother to live."
She continued to cry. Zarkus sighed. He was starting to get irritated with these emotional matters. The deafening alarm was not helping either.

"All that matters is that we get out of here immediately," Kaibura continued. "Your brother died for something. Don't let him die in vain."

That was when Sam looked into Kaibura's eyes. Her eyes were shining, bubbling with tears. Her eyes were rather red. Kaibura looked back and smiled. She did the same as well.

********************************************

It was real.

Everything that the Death Note spoke about was nothing beyond fake. It was beyond realism. It was impossible, yet James could do it anyway; with this notebook. This notebook had the power to kill people, and he learned that it was indeed true. It was too hard to believe that such an entity to kill another person, but it could.

James sat in front of his house on the emerald-green grass and looked across the street at his fallen neighbour. His neighbour, Ryan Kuro Brown had fallen in front of his garage door. His eyes were still open, but he did not move an inch since he had fallen two minutes before.

Two minutes and fourty seconds before Ryan had fallen to the ground, James had written his neighbour's name. He could not believe what had just happened; he had killed his least favourite neighbour. He had killed him using a pencil and a notebook of death.

This was all too much for James to handle. He just sat their, jaw wide open, staring at his dead neighbour. By then, Ryan's family members gathered around him and started to see what on earth what had happened. When they had realized he was dead, they began to panic. James continued to stare.

"I can't believe it," he muttered to himself. "This notebook ... actually kills people like this? My God..."

James grinned. There was a look on his face, an evil look on his face as he got up from the grass and walked back to his fortress of solitude. He made sure to lock the door before re-opening the Death Note at his table full of damp paper. He looked at a sheet with his father's information and his father's case.

James looked down at a page of the Death Note, still smiling as he wrote down another name. He looked back and forth from the pencil and the picture on one of the pages of greenish paper. The picture was of Narukoll Ter Aki, head of the police officers that he ordered to kill John Ari.

It took several moments before James could finish writing Narukoll's name down. After a minute, he had finally finished spelling the officer's name. Now he had to pick a choice of death for the person. That was when the wheels in his head began to turn.

"Goodbye," James said, looking down at the page with a slight grin. "You bloody bastard. Enjoy your heart attack."

And with that, he closed the Death Note up, relaxing for the first time after several years, with the ease of mind that his father's killer was no more. Now, he would have to wait only fourty seconds before Narukoll, his father's main killer, would be taken away from this world, away from society.

Grammar Nazi time.

Misplaced modifiers.
"Goodbye," James said, looking down at the page with a slight grin. "You bloody bastard. Enjoy your heart attack."
Should be.
"Goodbye," James said with a slight grin, as he was looking down on the page. "You bloody bastard. Enjoy your heart attack."
You're implying the page is grinning slightly.
I know you're not doing it for grammar, but everybody needs a touch up once in a while, right?

Well written sentences make the world go round.
Every little perfect detail. Should be perfect.
The Grammar Nazi shall return to base.

Also, take it as an offense and I chew your head off.
..horrible grammar.
Unf. Time to go suicidal.
